2018 Toyota Camry Changes: 5 Best Changes for the New Generation

2018 Toyota Camry Changes

The 8th generation Toyota Camry is sporting a serious makeover. In fact, Toyota didn’t just enhance a few existing features here and there; instead, the brand repositioned its fan-favorite sedan on a whole new platform. And by fan-favorite, we’re not kidding. The Camry has time and again earned the distinction as the best-selling car in the United States for fifteen years. But this new Camry, touted by the brand as a “true driver’s car,” is proving itself a real game changer.

According to Toyota’s senior vice president of automotive operations, Bob Carter, “The all-new 2018 Camry is, without a doubt, the most captivating mid-size sedan we’ve ever produced. It delivers on everything Camry owners have come to expect from America’s best-selling car, and adds to it, jaw-dropping design, more advanced technology, cutting-edge safety systems, and stirring performance that raises it to an unparalleled level of excitement.”

Check out five steps that raised the 2018 Toyota Camry to this exciting new level…

Enhanced Architecture

The new platform supporting the 2018 Toyota Camry is credited with improving fuel efficiency and aerodynamics. With its longer wheelbase - extended by two inches - the new Camry offers drivers enhanced outward visibility, courtesy of its lowered dashboard, hood, and cowl.

Optimal Operation

Although the brand carried over the same 3.5-liter V6 and 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines, the new Camry benefits from a brand new eight-speed automatic transmission. What’s more, a new four-cylinder hybrid is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), alongside the brand’s newest technology geared towards optimal fuel economy.

Interior Improvements

According to Toyota, the driver’s and front passenger’s seats have been “completely redesigned” for enhanced comfort and greater accessibility. The back seat is reportedly more spacious as well. Regardless of seating position, the Camry’s interior is rich with high-quality materials, well thought out gauges, and plenty of storage spaces.

Top-Notch Technology

The 2018 Toyota Camry is the first in the Toyota lineup to benefit from the brand’s own and newest generation of Entune infotainment, featuring remote start, vehicle finder services, guest driver monitor, and vehicle status updates. Also, Entune is available with WiFi Connect capabilities, which uses 4G LTE to connect up to five devices simultaneously.

Serious About Safety

Toyota proves itself serious about safety when it comes to the 2018 Toyota Camry. Featuring its exclusive Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) as standard equipment, the Camry’s occupants are backed by advanced safety technologies like lane-departure alert and lane-keep assistance, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision alert with both automatic braking and pedestrian detection. Available features include rear-cross traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring systems, depending on trim level. However, regardless of model, every 2018 Toyota Camry includes a rearview camera.

While the industry still awaits official safety scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), U.S. News & World Report already felt comfortable naming the 2018 Camry its #1 Safest Midsize Car.

Given Toyota’s latest efforts, it’s fair to say that segment rivals now have an even tougher challenge when it comes to dethroning the Camry from its spot as top-selling sedan...
