SE

The base model 2018 Toyota Tacoma comes with a 2.7-liter Inline4 gas engine that puts out 159 horsepower and gets an estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The base model starts at $25,400, and it is available in rear- or all-wheel drive and with an access cab or double cab.

Exterior features include front tow hooks, reverse opening rear doors, power-folding mirrors, and body-colored bumpers.

Inside, you'll find cloth upholstery and features like distance-pacing cruise control, power windows, an overhead console, a rear underseat storage tray, a day-night rearview mirror, steering wheel-mounted controls, a locking glove box, and a full floor console.

The infotainment system includes a touchscreen monitor, voice-activated radio, wireless phone connectivity, and speed-sensitive volume.

The base model Tacoma provides more than the essentials. The features make driving more fun even if you are using your truck primarily for hard work.

SR5

The SR5 trim level starts at $27,175, and it comes with the same powertrain as the base model. You have the same options for the access cab or double cab and for rear- or all-wheel drive.

Slight upgrades are made on the exterior, including body-colored fender flares and a chrome rear bumper with a black rub strip (instead of a black rear bumper).

Convenience features added at this level include an integrated key and remote, Dynamic Radar Cruise control with distance pacing (and steering wheel-mounted controls), and a key fob. The infotainment system gets a second LCD monitor, Internet access and smart device integration through Entune, a three-month trial subscription to satellite radio, a stand-alone navigation mirroring app, and real-time weather display.

The SR5 still keeps its focus on practicality for those who need a dependable work truck, but it adds some convenience features that make the drive a little nicer.

TRD Sport

While a V6 engine option was available on the lower trim levels, it becomes standard starting with the TRD Sport trim. With the TRD Sport, you get a 3.5-liter V6 engine that puts out 278 horsepower. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, and it gets an estimated fuel economy of 21 mpg. The TRD Sport starts at $32,095, and it is available in a double cab or access cab and in rear- or all-wheel drive.

Exterior upgrades include turn signal indicator mirrors and a trailer hitch. The interior of the TRD Sport gets an immediate upgrade with premium cloth upholstery and manual lumbar support. Additional convenience features include a navigation system with voice activation and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

TRD Off Road

As its name suggests, the TRD Off Road shifts its focus to performance in rugged conditions, such as when driving off road. The TRD Off Road shares the same V6 powertrain as the previous trim level, and it is available in the same configurations. It starts at $33,350.

Performance features include Bilstein brand front and rear shocks, speed-sensing hydraulic power-assist rack-pinion steering, front coil springs, rigid axle rear leaf suspension, electro-mechanical limited slip differential, off-road suspension, and speed-sensing steering.

The exterior comes in unique colors and includes special badging for the trim level. The passenger doors are replaced with traditional doors, and a hitch for Class IV trailering with harness is included.

A smart key is included for convenience and security, but other convenience features are the same.

Limited

The Limited comes with the same V6 power train as the TRD trim levels, but it is available only in a double cab option. You can still choose between rear- or all-wheel drive. The Limited trim level starts at $37,340.

Inside, the cloth upholstery is swapped out for leather, letting you know this trim level is focused on sophistication, rather than practicality. The instrument panel has a leatherette insert, and leatherette is used on the door trim. The steering wheel also has a leather look.

A chrome tip exhaust is added to the exterior, and interior upgrades include a passenger vanity mirror, sunshade, air filter, power rear windows, dual-zone climate control, and automatic temperature control. The infotainment system is upgraded to seven premium speakers instead of six standard speakers.

TRD Pro

At the top of the line up is the TRD Pro, which is only available in all-wheel drive with a double cab. It comes with the same power train of the upper trim levels, and it starts at $41,720.

Skid plates, power-folding mirrors with turn signal indicators, and special badging are all offered for the exterior, plus a lot of optional features like a bed cover or pin stripe.

You get all the luxury features of the Limited inside, plus heated seats for the driver and front passenger. You get a garage door transmitter on this trim, but the sound system is downgraded to the standard six speakers.
