2019 Toyota Camry NH

Consumers in the market for a family sedan will be pleased with the latest contender from Toyota. The eighth generation 2019 Toyota Camry is sporting a total makeover for the new model year, boosting its popularity, sharpening the edge over same-segment competitors.

With its refined style and lowered stance, the new Camry sets itself apart from its predecessors in aesthetic appeal alone. The engine options are compelling - either new or revised, and include the introduction of a new hybrid variant. Five trim levels, distinguished by various feature availability, offer something for everyone. What’s more, Toyota’s Safety Sense-P suite of passive and active safety technologies, protects drivers and occupants of all Camry models, regardless of trim.

According to Toyota the new Camry relies upon “TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture), which represents a completely new strategy to the way the company designs, engineers and packages its vehicles.”

Despite these new developments, the Camry remains a classic favorite among consumers. Edmunds captures the Camry’s consumer allure as follows: “With its enviable blend of space and efficiency, the Camry is a best-seller for a reason.”

Here, we detail a few of those reasons - motivation for those in the market to test drive the latest iteration of Camry.

The Best Performing Camry Ever

Powertrains for the 2019 Camry are either brand new or familiar, but enhanced. This leaves drivers with plenty to consider, relative to power and fuel efficiency. A new, eight-speed automatic transmission boosts fuel economy numbers, while providing smooth operation.

There are three engine options offered for the 2019 model year, including one hybrid variant. For those drivers less concerned with going green, the options includes a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, generating 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, or a 3.5-liter V6, capable of 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque. Although all 2018 Toyota Camry models are available with the four-cylinder, the V6 variant is only offered on the higher-end XLE and XSE trims.

Consumers who do fret about their carbon footprints should consider the Toyota Camry Hybrid, powered by Toyota’s new Dynamic Force Engine - an electric motor and CVT, which returns an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of 53 hwy mpg.

Depending on priorities - power vs. power-savings at the pump, the Toyota Camry offers the right powertrain for any driver in need of a reliable, stylish, family-friendly full-size sedan.

Reimagined Trim Options

The 2019 Toyota Camry affords considerable choice with respect to standard or available operation under the hood and the same holds true for the trims. With five to choose from - L, LE, SE, XLE, and XSE - the Camry comes loaded with features designed to enhance comfort, convenience, and, above all, safety. Customization is easy, given that many of the features seen on the higher trims are available to enhance the entry and mid-level options. Here is a quick inventory of the features drivers should expect to find from each.

L - Starting MSRP $23,495

Opting for the entrant L trim delivers some basic features like a cloth interior, keyless entry, automatic LED headlights, rearview camera, six-speaker sound system, solo USB port, Bluetooth capabilities, height-adjustable driver’s seat, 16-inch steel wheels, and touchscreen measuring 7 inches.

LE - Starting MSRP $24,000

A quick step up to the LE model returns extra goodies like a 60/40-split folding seat in back, an eight-way power-adjustable seat for drivers, enhanced with two-way power lumbar support, car alarm, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

SE - Starting MSRP $25,200

Camry SE models take things up a notch, presenting a sportier edge than the L and LE. In addition to enhanced steering and a sport-tuned suspension, SE trims get SofTex simulated leather seats, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, and 18-inch wheels.

XLE - Starting MSRP $28,450 and XSE - Starting MSRP $29,000

Both the XLE and XSE trims are the high-end versions of the LE and SE. Expect to benefit from extra features designed for optimal comfort and convenience. For instance, these models come equipped with keyless ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather interior, power-adjustable seat for front passenger, enlarged 8-inch display, Qi wireless charging for smartphones, top of the line JBL sound system, head-up display, and bigger wheels.

A sunroof and top-down parking camera are available as options on all 2019 Camry models.

Incredible Interior with Advanced Safety

Representing enhanced materials over last year’s model, the Camry’s interior is pleasing, if not segment-leading. The interior bins and storage spaces provided adequate room for small objects, while the trunk offers ample cargo opportunity, which is easily expandable thanks to the 60/40-split folding back seats. Consumers who need to a vehicle that can accommodate a car seat are in luck with the new Camry.

Although considered rather basic, in terms of interior details, the 2019 Camry offers a fully functional, easily accessible interior, full of conveniently placed dials and gauges, with enough room to seat up to five adult passengers comfortably.

Abundant in safety features, the most impressive is the existence of Toyota’s Safety Sense-P in all Camry models, regardless of trim level. Equipped with the Safety Sense-P, every Camry comes with automatic emergency braking, cruise control - which automatically adjusts for traffic, lane departure warning and mitigation, and automatic dimming headlights. Those are all cutting-edge, impressive features to see in any vehicle, but especially included on entry or mid-level models.

Although the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not yet evaluated the 2019 Toyota Camry, last year’s model earned five stars, overall, from the NHTSA. The IIHS gave the model its top rating of “Good,” along with it’s Top Safety Pick+ designation.

Camry Awards and Brand Accolades

Although it’s early yet to list any awards specific to the Toyota Camry, previous models and the brand itself are rich in industry accolades. To start, more than 90% of all Camrys sold in the past ten years are still on the road today. No wonder that the Camry is remains the best-selling car in America, as it has for 19 out of the past 20 years.

While J.D. Power recognized the Camry as the “Most Dependable Vehicle” on the market, U.S. News & World Report gave it the distinction of being the #1 in Mid-Size Cars.

Embarking on an innovative marketing initiative, “Sensations,” designed to inspire new customers, represents Toyota’s efforts to breathe fresh life into a familiar vehicle and spice up dependability. Toyota’s Group Vice President of Marketing, Ed Laukes, “The launch of the next-generation Camry is incredibly important for Toyota, and we wanted to create a campaign that matched its excellence and the excitement of the new design.”
