The Performance You Need

Granted, when we think performance, the minivan market doesn’t necessarily zip to mind. In this case, performance centers on reliability and mileage. The Sienna delivers both, keeping you on your path longer and stopping for fill-ups less often.

Enhanced Engine

Equipped with this year’s revised version of the 3.5-liter V6 engine, the Sienna boasts 296 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The new eight-speed automatic transmission subs in for last year’s six-speed version. All 2019 Toyota Sienna models feature front-wheel drive as standard operation, while some trims do provide the option of all-wheel drive.

Fuel Efficiency

Between the engine enhancements and new transmission, Sienna drivers can expect better returns at the pump, with the EPA estimating the Sienna’s fuel economy at 19 city/27 highway/22 mpg combined from the front-wheel drive configuration, while all-wheel drive returns 18 city/24 highway/20 mpg combined.

Trim Level Considerations

Toyota provides drivers with five trim level choices in this year’s Sienna. In addition to the five - L, LE, SE, XLE, and Limited, sub-trim options are available on mid to higher trims. A real consideration between trim levels comes down to passenger accommodations. How many seats will you need on a regular basis behind the wheel of your 2019 Sienna?

Opting for a seven-passenger Sienna means your backseat passengers in the second row will get to travel in captain’s chair, which feature optional extendable footrests. Compared to the rest of the segment, these seats slide further back and forward, making that middle row arguably the most coveted on long road trips. Total cargo capacity from the seven-seater Siennas totals 150 cubic feet.

Another prime consideration is climate. Do you live in a geographic location that experiences harsh winters? If so, a Sienna equipped with AWD will narrow down your options.

Trim Options and Equipment

L - Starting at MSRP $29,750

The entry-level Sienna seats a maximum of seven passengers and is exclusively a front-wheel drive vehicle. Standard equipment marking the Sienna L features:

  • Automatic headlights

  • Windshield wiper de-icer

  • Tri-zone automatic climate control

  • Cruise control

  • Tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel

  • Height-adjustable driver seat

  • Manual sliding back doors

  • 17-inch alloy wheels

  • Cloth interior

  • Rearview camera

  • Four-speaker sound system

  • Bluetooth capability

  • 6.1-inch touchscreen

  • USB port

  • Media player

  • AUX audio jack

  • CD player

LE - Starting at MSRP $32,540

Jumping up one step to the LE, drivers can configure the Sienna for either seven or eight passengers. Unlike the base level L, the LE does offer optional all-wheel drive, paired to larger, 18-inch wheels. Additional equipment comes from the following enhancements:

  • Power-sliding back doors

  • Roof rails

  • Eight-way power driver seat, featuring lumbar support

  • Sunshades for second and third row passengers

  • Six-speaker sound system, complete with HD and satellite radio

  • Enhanced interior “easy-clean” cloth materials

  • Conversation mirror

  • Body-color exterior trim

  • Heated mirrors

  • Privacy glass

  • Overhead-mounted consoles

  • 7-inch touchscreen

  • Scout GPS Link app compatibility

SE - Starting at MSRP $36,110

Slotting right into the middle space in the Sienna lineup, the SE adds onto the LE’s offerings by including larger, 19-inch alloy wheels, refined steering, sport-tuned suspension, lower-body skirting, and front fascia complete with LED daytime running lights, fog lights, and a mesh grille. Extra features are found in the heated seats up front, perforated leather upholstery in the first two rows, a power liftgate, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and enlarged driver information screen with easily accessible gauges and controls.

Remember those sub-trims? The SE is the first of the trims to offer one - the SE Premium, which includes a number of useful bells and whistles like:

  • Navigation system

  • Blind-spot monitoring

  • Keyless entry and ignition

  • Sunroof

  • Rear cross-traffic warning

  • Integration with Entune smartphone app

A sunroof is optional, but arguably the most compelling feature afforded by the SE Premium is the entertainment system for backseat passengers (read: antsy kids), which includes a Blu-ray/DVD player, HDMI and SD card inputs, two household (120-volt) power sources, and larger, dual-split screen. What’s more, the Driver Easy Speak system enhances and broadcasts the driver’s voice out of the speakers in the back - ideal for policing unruly passengers, and answering for the millionth time whether or not you’re “there yet.”

XLE - Starting at MSRP $36,310

Nearly at the top of the Sienna lineup, the XLE is a blend of the SE and LE, but with its own distinctions like power-opening rear quarter windows, four-way power front-passenger seat, faux-wood trim, along with keyless entry and ignition.

Also available with a sub-trim, the Premium version of the XLE borrows the features found in the SE Premium and boosts them further with rear parking sensors.

Limited - Starting at MSRP $42,808

When it comes to the LImited version of the 2019 Toyota Sienna, expect extra distinction from its unique grille, automatic dimming and power-folding mirrors, front and back parking sensors, matching sunroofs in the front and back, LED daytime running lights, heated steering wheel, high-end leather interior, navigation, 18-inch alloy wheels, enhanced 10-speaker JBL surround sound system, and Toyota's Safety Connect emergency services.

Drivers who live and work in harsher climates might want to tackle the commute and carpool with the added safety features afforded by the Limited Premium, like automatic high beams, xenon headlights, and automatic windshield wipers.

Safety and Style

Toyota didn’t skimp on safety when it came to the 2019 Sienna. No matter which trim level you opt for, all Sienna models are backed by safety features like stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes, full-length side curtain airbags, front-seat side airbags, driver-side knee airbag, rear view camera, front-passenger seat cushion airbag, and active front head restraints.

While some trims do offer available rear cross-traffic warning, parking sensors in the front and back, along with blind-spot monitoring, only the Limited model offers available forward collision warning.

Despite its average stopping distance of 126 feet from 60 mph, according to Edmunds, the Toyota Sienna earned five stars in federal crash tests, along with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) best rating of Good in various impact assessments.

Interior Style

Regardless of the various bells and whistles represented by each trim level, the Toyota Sienna offers a pleasant ride in a comfortable interior, replete with quality materials, thoughtfully designed and configured. Certainly, higher trim levels offer added luxury and comfort, but all Sienna models provide enough refinement and convenience to make every mile traveled an enjoyable experience.

Exterior Style

Complementing the understated elegance of the Sienna’s interior, Toyota created a dazzling exterior color palette designed to make a professional or bold statement. Shades include Silver Sky Metallic, Super White, Midnight Black Metallic, Predawn Gray Mica, Salsa Red Pearl, Creme Brulee Mica, Sky Blue Pearl, Blizzard Pearl, and Shoreline Blue Pearl.
