Toyota Corolla or Camry: Which is Right for You?

The Toyota Corolla and the Toyota Camry are two of the most popular vehicles on the market. They are both known for their reliability, their affordability, and their fuel efficiency. These two go head-to-head on lists for vehicles that are the best buys, and they continue to sell year after year.

You may have an easy time coming to the conclusion that a Toyota Corolla or a Camry would be a great investment, but you might have a very difficult time choosing between the two. We're not sure that we can make the choice any easier, but we can help you understand how the two compare:

Exterior Comparison

The Toyota Camry is considered a mid-size vehicle, while the Corolla is considered a compact. However, you won't notice much difference in the size, whether on the exterior or the interior.

The Corolla has a more grown-up look that is polished and professional, without a lot of extra frills. But don't mistake this description for boring. This is a handsome sedan - not a humdrum one.

Meanwhile, the Camry has a more youthful and sporty look to it. The front end is sleek and aerodynamic, making it look like it's ready for action. There are more details and sculpting in the design, giving it more visual appeal.

Interior and Technology

You'll see the same sense of style carrying over to the interior on both the Toyota Camry and the Toyota Corolla. Inside, the Corolla has a conservative design. The understated upholstery and interior design is accented by an infotainment screen in the center of the dash, and there is another screen next to the gage cluster. It has cloth upholstery, a leather steering wheel, a Smarty Key system, and other features that are standard on most vehicles.

In contrast, the Camry has an exciting design that looks sporty and slightly upscale. The interior features are angled toward the driver, making it easier to reach all the controls. Some standard features include an Entune 3.0 Plus infotainment system, wireless smart phone charging, a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, and dual zone climate control. You get features that make this sedan feel a lot more upscale than its price suggests.

Performance

In keeping with its sportier look, the Camry proves to be a more powerful performer. It comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. If you want more power, you can upgrade to a 3.5-liter V6 engine that puts out 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque.

Meanwhile, the 2019 Toyota Corolla comes standard with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 132 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to an Eco model that puts out 140 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque.

Which is Right for You?

The Toyota Camry is the hands-down winner if you want a more powerful performer and a sportier look. However, the true choice will come down to your personal preferences and budget. Visit your local Toyota dealership to test drive both models and find out which is right for you.
